I am so tired. I have been reading and editing all morning.

I am a slave to my studio.

I am starving.

When did I eat last?

I know there is chocolate in the fridge.

But wait. I have to work until 7EST time today.
I will only crash in an hour after that quick sugar rush.

Then I remember. I thought ahead the last time I went shopping. In my refrigerator are: a granny smith green apple and organic crunchy peanut butter.

I slice the apple into quarters and then spread a teaspoon of organic crunchy peanut butter on each slice. It is sweet and tart. The pectin in that sour sweet taste helps eliminate mouth noise. So this is both a tasty and a vocally wise decision.

The crunchiness of the tart and juicy apple, combined with the smooth and nutty crunchy taste of the peanut butter, together they make the perfect snack. Or breakfast… or lunch… or late night fix.

So next time you want to reach for the quick fix, remind yourself there is a choice that is healthy, supports good pipes, and is way more satisfying than any candy or chips. Cause after you are done there is NO guilt!

Guilt Free Eating

I like that way that sounds.

What is your guilt free snack? Please share your ideas here!!

Breaking Through is about transcending your read to the next level. In order to get there, you first need to give yourself permission to be incredible. Trust me, we all have our unique individual issues that hold us back from seeing ourselves as the superstar that we want to become. By holding on to any limiting thoughts about ourselves means we that we are placing a barrier between us and living our highest and best life. But with a little freedom and imagination, we can all step up to the microphone and be that fantastic person we all imagine that we are.

For example: when an actor that is usually shy, reserved and timid is cast as the hip, successful, fabulous, fashion icon, that actor will find that part of themselves that would know exactly how they would look and feel in this character’s shoes.

Imagine every time you get in front of your microphone that you already are that amazing and wildly successful talent that books the audition for which you are reading.

See yourself not only in the same room with your voice over heroes, but in your vision, they are all there watching and listening to you read, and they are all transfixed, with a loving and approving smile on their faces. This is your moment to shine. Breathe that in and break a lip!!

Oh, and I am just curious… what you do personally to work up that courage to show up at your highest and best? In other words: How do you break though?

In the voice over business, the voice comes first. When you have the luxury of numerous takes, a bit of mouth noise or worse, a sore throat, can take you out of the game. To that end, I would love to share with you some tips based on some of things that have helped me over the years.

Last spring I got really sick. So sick that I thought to myself that “this is why elderly people die from the flu.” I realized that this was the sickest I had been in eight years.

In my effort to understand how I got so sick, I had a conversation with the almighty. Ultimately, I realized that we sometimes get sick because we need the rest. I had not realized that the ONLY time I slow down is when I am sick. Note to self: take better care everyday so I don’t have to do this for at least another eight years.

Keep your body alkaline. There has been a lot of research on the importance of keeping the body alkaline. Life, stress, dairy, sugar, fast food, coffee, pretty much everything most of us love is what creates acid in our system. An acid environment is where disease is born…. from the common cold, to sinus infections and even cancer. Here is a link here to an amazing video interview with Dr. Tullio Simonici, an oncologist who has looked at cancer close up. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HQuODiMlUsc

I use Young Living Organic Essential oils. One of their fantastic products is called Alka-Lime. You place a teaspoon of this powder into a glass of water and drink it at bedtime. It alkalizes your system overnight. If I am feeling challenged I do this three times a day.

When my daughter was two and half, I was diagnosed with Epstein Barr or Chronic Fatigue. I was told by my physician at the time to take oil of oregano and oil of thyme lingually. Today I use Young Living oil of oregano, oil of thyme and oil of basil. I place drop of each on my tongue. It is extremely hot. Sometimes I place a drop of each in a glass of water, then drink that down and follow with lots of water to cool my mouth down. Some people prefer to take the oils via a gelatin capsule.

Why would I subject myself to this? I have found that oregano, thyme and basil are very anti-viral, anti-bacterial and anti-fungal oils. I believe they keep me strong, healthy and cold and flu free.

Also, Thieves is my favorite oil to use when I get that first hint that something is wrong with my immune system. Like the first dry tickle in the throat. Another item from Young Living Oils is Thieves mouthwash. If you have read any studies on the power of colloidal silver, that is one of the powerful ingredients in Thieves mouthwash. A gargle before bedtime is best.

Keep you mouth healthy. Brush and floss daily.

For everyday mouth noise you can eat a green Granny Smith apple or, another tip I received from my voice over buddy Joe Cipriano (who learned it from George DelHoyo), regarding pesky mouth noise is to use Alkalol. It is about $5 and is available without a prescription at your local pharmacy. You use it as a gargle as it alkalizes the mouth. It can also be used as a wash for the nasal cavity if you have a sinus infection. When I have mouth noise, I eat a green apple, or I take a swish of Alkalol. Maybe these remedies can work for you?
If you are interested in ordering from Young Living Oils go to http://www.youngliving.us/
